Honda debuts the City Hybrid in Japan

By Faiming_low on 05 Nov 2014 in New model

Attached Image Honda debuts the Grace - a hybrid version of the Honda City, in Japan. Revealed on Honda's Japanese website, the Grace is pretty much similar to the the Honda City which we get here on our shores.

Attached Image Eagle-eyed readers will be able to tell the Hybrid City from a normal City via a couple of special parts like the blue-tinted bar under the front grill and the subtle bootlid spoiler.

Attached Image The Grace also receives special LED headlights and tail lights as options.

Attached Image Inside, the dashboard design remains pretty much similar other than a new instrumental cluster and a shared gear knob with the Jazz/Vezel hybrid.

Attached Image We expect the Grace/City Hybrid to use the same drivetrain as its cousins ( the Jazz/fit Hybrid and the HR-V/Vezel Hybrid) too as not much information about what is under the hood is given. This means the Grace will have the 108bhp 1.5-litre i-VTEC Atkinson-cycle engine that is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox which also houses a 29bhp electric motor inside. Both motors combined to output a not-shabby-at-all figure of 137bhp and 170Nm of torque.

Attached Image For those that are interested in how the electric motor and dual-clutch gearbox works, you can watch the clip below.

Since young, Fai Ming has always centered his life around cars. In fact his first word was 'car' and not 'mum' or 'dad'. Aren't kids cute?

From the video Honda still uses the electric motor to assist the petrol engine. Only this time the engine is on Atkinson cycle which is pretty gutless on its own.

Honda never show how the Lithium batteries are cooled. The cooling of the batteries will be vital in Sgp's hot climate as heat is the number one killer for batteries.
