Infiniti Q50 gets new 400 hp twin turbo V6
For the 2016 model year, Infiniti has unveiled a new engine to top the range for the Q50 sedan. Soon to be available with a brand new 3.0-litre twin turbocharged V6 engine, the rest of the range gets a revamp for their turbo engines too.
With an output of 400bhp and 475Nm of torque being churned out, the Q50 cannot be accused of being slow. According to Infiniti, it claims that its engine has the best power-to-efficiency ratio in its class. However, no fuel consumption figures have been released.
One of the main highlights of the new engine is the use of a bespoke turbine speed sensor and overhauled turbine blade design which is said to increase turbine speeds of up to 10 percent. It is now capable of spinning up to a eye-watering 220,000rpm. To improve throttle response, Infiniti has also focused heavily on revamping the the valve timing with the help of a small electric motor mounted to the valve timing system.
Interestingly, this engine is also available in a detuned variant where it produces 300bhp and 400Nm of torque between 1600 and 5200 rpm.
