The picture above is an Audi, but not as we know it. It is a pedal car half the size of the original Auto Union Type C from 1936. This 1:2 scale model is a very limited hand crafted pedal powered car based on the original and it costs £10,000.00. Pretty steep for something that your kid would need to use his own two feet and pedal if he wants to go places in it.
It has an aluminium tubular frame of which aluminium sheets are attached to it making that distinctive 1930s racer body. The body was manufactured by Audi’s in-house tookmaking division. The designers at Audi also thought up everything to ensure maximum pedaling pleasure for the kids piloting this pedal car. This means that this isn't a sub-contracted toy bearing the Audi name. It actually IS an Audi if you think about it.
Kids up to 135cm tall utilise a seven (7) speed transmission attached to the chain driven wheels. The car has a back pedal brake system (i.e you pedal backwards to slow it down), a hand brake with a lever (of course) and hydraulic double disc brakes to slow it down. Amazing.
The pedal powered car also boasts an interior with an oak wood dashboard with faux dials and meters and a leather covered steering that has a quick release system for easy entry and exit.
It isn’t a small little toy. You have to remember that it is half the size of an original car, this means that it is 2 meters long and nearly a meter wide. It measures 2020 x 968 x 624 mm, making it a pretty large toy that deserves to be kept in the garage beside daddy’s R8.
According to Audi UK, you can order this by contacting your local Audi Centre. I wonder whether this also means the main showroom at Leng Kee Road in Singapore?
Anyway, Audi is limiting this pedal car to 999 units. It is a nice piece of kit for a kid to arrive in style at his or her 6th birthday party isn’t it?
