Subaru launches a more aggressive WRX in Japan
Subaru has just introduced its latest WRX variant in Japan. Hotter than the entry-level WRX S4(which is different from the base WRX we get locally), the new car is made for someone who wants a more hardcore WRX that is pair with an automatic gearbox. Called the WRX S4 tS, the new car inherits some of the good stuff from the top-of-the-line WRX STi S207.
Highlight features of the car include a 10 percent improvement in torque delivery during acceleration, which is achieved via improved air intake and exhaust parts, better braking thanks to uprated Brembos and sharper handling courtesy of a flexible tow bar. DampMatic II front suspension with adjustable damping and front-rear active torque vectoring are present too. A CVT oil cooler has been added to improve the cooling performance of the Sport Lineartronic CVT transmission for track work.
Outside, new 19-inch BBS forged aluminum wheels feature and combined with a more aggressive bodykit all round, the car looks stunning. Inside, a new speedometer design and STi Recaro front bucket seats remind you that you are not in any plain WRX.
Not special enough? A 'NBR Challenge Package' is available as an add on for nearly S$3000 more. The car will now have black forged aluminum wheels, a dry carbon rear spoiler with STI logo, an exclusive emblem at the rear and a suede-wrapped steering wheel.
Subaru quotes similar power figures as the WRX S4 which equates to 296bhp and 400Nm of torque from the 2.0-litre turbocharged FA20 engine.
Prices for the WRX S4 tS start from 4,968,000Yen (S$65,887) and the Japan-only car will be limited to a five-month sale period.
