Will the Mitsubishi Grand Lancer reach our shores?

By Faiming_low on 15 Feb 2017

Attached Image The new Mitsubishi Grand Lancer has been officially revealed for China and selected Asian markets. Will this variant of the Lancer reach us?

Attached Image Likely to be based on the current Lancer EX that we have here, the Grand Lancer features the company's distinctive Dynamic Shield look with the chrome garnish stretching across the front grille, similar to the Outlander. At the rear, the car gets a pair of heavily re-designed tail lights, boot and bumper. New 18-inch wheels complete the exterior transformation.

Attached Image Inside, the cabin has also been freshened up. Highlights include a new optional digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Occupants will now enjoy better ride comfort with a revised suspension setting and better sound insulation.

Attached Image For the markets that will get the car, a 1.8 litre SOHC MIVEC naturally-aspirated petrol sends 138bhp and 176Nm of torque to the front wheels via a INVECS-III CVT. It is claimed to be able to achieve 15.7km/L

Since young, Fai Ming has always centered his life around cars. In fact his first word was 'car' and not 'mum' or 'dad'. Aren't kids cute?

As an ex-Lancer EX owner, I can see the similarities of this car with the current EX. Side profile looks exactly the same, seats are exactly the same as the GT version. Even the door panel layout is similar.

That said, the EX is a modern-looking car despite the design being 10 years old. So the good thing about owning one is that you will not be made obsolete by facelifts so soon.

Pricing is a key factor. If the Grand Lancer 1.8 can be sold at within the $110K range, it may be the next best seller. With Cat B COE on the same price band as Cat A, this is possible.

I think they will bring in the 1.6l version rather than 1.8

First of all, this is a Taiwan market Lancer FL. 2nd this FL was done almost in house by Taiwanese and authorized by Mitsubishi. Production of this model will be in Taiwan.

This is not a China model.

And 2nd, unless somehow the Taiwan factory has capacity and means to mod this model to RHD, it is 100% unlikely this model will see oversea sales.

The Lancer is dead, really dead worldwide. If it is dead in Japan and Thailand, you can forget about seeing it here in sg

You may have better chance hoping for Proton Inspira 2L to be imported here

stopped production in 2015, and remaining stock are being snapped up quickly... it's the new ah-beng car there after the old Proton Wira, thanks to the partial "convert-ability" to evo x bodykit.
