Spotted on the net via Cars.co.za, the car looks larger than the one being replaced. Details of the car remains scarce but it is expected to be based on the new MQB-A0 platform and will get a range of newly updated engines, including a new 1.5-litre TSI petrol turbo unit that will have 128bhp or 148bhp. A smaller 1.0-litre three cylinder petrol turbo will also be made available with multiple power ratings of 64bhp, 74bhp, 94bhp and 113bhp.

Inside, the new Polo will be better built and is likely to feature a digital instrument display, large touchscreen infotainment screen and a wide array of active safety systems.

The supermini is scheduled to debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

am sure there will be a Polo Gti. And if its on a shared architecture, it may make more sense to get a Polo just for the pure weight ration then a Golf

The outgoing Polo GTI is quite lukewarm with it's 7 Speed DSG with it's slow start off at the first 2 gears, I'm not even talking about the famouse juttering and mechatronics issue..

Sure the car is quick at 6.9 sec paper spec but the delivery doesn't make it exciting, to the point you look at the speedo and go like "huh so fast 100km/h liao but I don't feel the speed leh"....

It's soul-less handling makes it boring and serious car. Even the Swift Sport, which much slower, is more fun at the corners. If you want the same power, the Audi A1 TFSI is a better choice..

At the end of the day, the Polo GTI is no Scirocco or Golf GTI.

I do hope the newer MK

the fact is the GTi Polo is a 1.8 T match to a Dry DSG. Your weakest link.

Even the new GTi which is 227 BHP does not inject excitement. You need to "juice" it up. add IS38. Make changes or take parts from the Clubsports S to make it that much more engaging.

Just to correct you the outgoing Polo GTI is 1.4 twin charged. It's the much older that is 1.8 but NA.

Anyway I agree the current GTI is quite soulless and has too much driver assist system to intervene the driving experience.

  • It's okay, you're just feeling ambivalent

I almost always struggle to describe my state of mind when asked to consider how I'm feeling. How do you express emotions that exist together but work in opposition to each other? When invited to join a gathering with friends, I delight over the prospect of catching up but also yearn to be lounging at home. I'm inspired by an accomplished co-worker yet envy her. I feel happy about a new beginning but nervous and, at the same time, sad over the closing of a chapter.  It's complicated. A
