The Fate of the Furious breaks opening weekend record
The latest installment of the Fast and Furious franchise has just broken the record of the highest opening weekend of any movie.
Grossing an impressive $744 million, The Fate of the Furious betters the last record holder of $739 million set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the $734 million opening weekend of Jurassic World.
China boosted its total sales figure by the most where it took in $265 million at the box office over the weekend, setting a new record for a Hollywood movie in the country.
Despite the good news, the action film saw a drop of about $66 million in terms of sales over the last Fast and Furious movie in the United States. The Americans contributed about $142 million while the rest of the world raked in the remaining $604 million.
