Grossing an impressive $744 million, The Fate of the Furious betters the last record holder of $739 million set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the $734 million opening weekend of Jurassic World.

China boosted its total sales figure by the most where it took in $265 million at the box office over the weekend, setting a new record for a Hollywood movie in the country.

Despite the good news, the action film saw a drop of about $66 million in terms of sales over the last Fast and Furious movie in the United States. The Americans contributed about $142 million while the rest of the world raked in the remaining $604 million.
