More details on the 2011 Suzuki Swift

Suzuki has released more official photos of the 2011 Swift as well as the specification for the models that will be initially launched for the European market. From these pictures we can see that the car looks slightly larger than the previous model but keeps the previous modelís DNA in terms of styling.

The supposedly Renault Megane styled rear end isnít as pronounced as one would expect especially if you look at the 2011 Swift from the side profile. The car looks a little larger as you can tell from the size of the person driving it. The side profile also shows a longer front overhang compared to the previous model but you can tell that Suzuki did not alter anything drastically and has basically kept the successful design of the previous Swift.

The interior looks a little more stylisized compared to the previous model. The Spartan interior of the old car has been upgraded with some silver aluminium look inserts with more cuts and creases. There seem to be more buttons and gizmos on the steering wheel, dashboard and centre console than the clean and simple earlier model. There are some carry over parts from the previous model like the window switches on the door rest. The boot looks slightly bigger. But not by much in my opinion.

From the spec sheet provided, we know that the initial Swift models are the 1.2-liter petrol and the 1.3-liter turbo diesel in both 3 door and 5 door hatchback forms. The 1.2liter engines produce 93bhp and , while 118Nm of torque. The 1.3 liter turbo diesel should be a decent drive with 74bhp BUT with a fat 190Nm of torque. Now hopefully the local importers bring this oil burner here so that we can give diesel power a go.

A five speed manual gearbox will be offered as standard with both engines, and there is an optional four speed automatic transmission for the petrol engine.

The diesel engine only sips 4.2l/100km, while the petrol engine consumes 5l/100km. I have to say again that I am looking forward to driving this new Swift.
