The Evoque 5 door will have the same engine specs of the 3 door. It will have a 2.2liter 4 cylinder turbodiesel engine in two different states of tune, one with 148bhp and another with 187bhp. The diesel engines will come with stop/start function for increased fuel economy. The 2.0liter 4 cylinder petrol engine will come from Ford and is a 237bhp turbocharged EcoBoost engine that you’d see in a Focus.
All of the Evoques will be offered in front wheel drive and also with four wheel drive. The transmission of choice may be the 6 speed manual and a 6 speed automatic using a Jaguar XF style circular selector instead of a typical gear lever on the center console. If you choose front wheel drive for the 148bhp diesel with a manual gearbox you will achieve 4.8l/100km and if you choose all-wheel drive you get 5.65l/100km. You also get 145g/km of emissions instead of 130g/km.
Options for passenger gadgetry and comfort include a dual-view TFT screen for sat-nav and TV at one go, a 1200w 17 speaker Meridian system stereo upgrade, park assist, dual zone climate control, powered tailgate for lazy people, adaptive headlights and a full length panoramic roof with the option for contrasting paint instead of glass at a no cost option.
And does it really look like a Mini Countryman? If you squint, or slightly intoxicated by all the free drinks at some of these launchings it does. Red car, white roof, slightly raised ride height, big mouth grille and if you took off your prescription glasses or contacts it may look like an enlarged Mini. Somewhat. Or not. Anyway, the Evoque 5 door will be officially previewed to the public in the ‘flesh’ at the Los Angeles Motor Show mid-November 2010.
