In Singapore, the current entry-level VW Scirocco is fitted to with the 1.4L Twincharged engine. However, a new entry-level 1.4 TSI (Single Turbo) model could be arriving in the near future as evident in its recent launch in UK. It is the same unit that powers the entry level 122bhp Golf.
The European speced entry model benefits from a comprehensive list of standard equipment including a six-CD autochanger with iPod preparation, rain and dusk sensors, a multifunction computer and 17-inch ‘Donington’ alloy wheels as well as a host of safety features including ABS, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) and six airbags. Adaptive Chassis Control (ACC) is also available on this model as an option. However, I believe that the Singapore-bound model will be less well-equipped, should it make it to our city state.
The Scirocco has recently bagged the 'Straits Times Car of the Year' award for 2009. Volkswagen Centre Singapore should ride on the publicity received by this wonderful coupe and brings in the new entry model.

Please do not belittle this 122 bhp lump as it has proven to propell the Jetta faster than a 1.8L Toyota Altis in a review done in Singapore. With proper pricing, Volkswagen should see the Scirocco flying off the shelves like hot cakes.
