Audi launched the A8 Security version of the car sometime in 2007. Based on the A8 L W12 quattro, the A8 features an armored passenger cell made from steel, glass and aramide fabric, which cannot be detected by the naked eye. The Prime Minister's Office told Globes that the security forces chose this vehicle because of its capability to carry the required protection level and that the prime minister didn’t take part in the decision-making process.
The vehicle is powered by the W12 petrol engine that delivers 450 hp, enabling the heavier-than usual car to hit 100 km/h in an unspecified time of a few seconds. There are various communications devices on board such as fax and telephone, which would come in handy during emergencies. For more comfort, the vehicle offers a cooler box, a bar, a humidor and a DVD player.
VIP consumers may opt for additional features such as rotating beacon on the roof, flashing LED lights in the wing mirrors or a PAX run-flat system, enabling the car to still run on a flat tire.
