Upon entering the Casuarina Room, visitors were greeted at a contemporary reception and were invited to enjoy the bar and catch up with other fellow members in a comfortable lounge area. For regular punters who embrace the lifestyle of horse racing, they will undoubtedly find solace in the room as it overlooks the entire racing track.
With the exception of extending the invitation to sgCarMart and MyCarForum members to Turf Club, the aim was to keep the horse racing sport alive by educating the younger public about the exciting sport. Due to the growing figures of older generation visiting the Turf Club, Mr Bondi Sim, Manager for Betting Control and Operations took the opportunity to ensure that the guests had betting slips to try their luck at the races. Although it was only worth $5, it was a lot of fun.
Turf Club also ensured that staffs were around to guide the guests through each and every race, allowing them to have a good knowledge of how a horse bet should be placed. It may be a tad confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’ll be like stealing a candy from a kid.
Guests were also brought for a tour around the betting area for a better understanding of the sport. And it was certainly an eye-opener for all of us to have a feel of what it was like to be seated in the stands while catching a live race. It’s definitely understandable why the sport needs to be brought back alive – there were massive number of older folks! It comes as no surprise that we could probably be the youngest people there.
Both sgCarMart as well as Turf Club blew the guests away with their generosity. Not only was betting slips given away, member of MyCarForum also stood to win attractive prizes from the lucky draw contest. Some of these prizes sports horse shoes, cash cards as well as $25 worth of betting slips. Additionally, a 16GB 3G iPad, that was sponsored by Standard Chartered, was given away to a lucky winner who took part in one of the contests that was held by sgCarMart.
And with the vast amount of prizes available, almost three quarter of the guests walked away with something that very afternoon. How cool is that? It certainly made almost everyone feel like a winner. Even I won something!
This was indeed a very good opportunity for the members of MyCarForum to bond. It’ll be awesome if there were more events like this. We’ll be working towards the next one for sure.
