BMW previews the face lifted 1 series coupe and convertible

After the recent press release photos of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe and announced that the coupe will be displayed at the Detroit Motor Show, BMW has announced that they will also be previewing the face-lifted, more normal variants of the 1 series coupe and convertible there. The mid-life revisions for the 1 series are mild and mainly focused to the front and rear ends of the car.

BMW is giving the 1 series new headlight cluster design (but with the same shape), slightly different rear lights (which look nicer than previously), a new splitter located under the front bumper (called an 'air curtain' for the front wheels) that reduces drag and magically improves fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions slightly. But no official figures have been revealed to far.
According to the press release, there will be two new colors – Vermillion Red and Marrakesh Brown and an extended alloy wheel option. A new 17inch 5 spoke design, 17inch turbine spoke and V-spoke 18inch wheels.

This isn't a fully blown facelift. It is merely a nip and tuck as according to rumors, the 1 series will have a radical overhaul in terms of looks with major changes reported to come to the next generation 1 series 3 and 5 door hatchbacks. The 5 door especially needs a total remake as even Top Gear's James May famously quoted that the 5 door hatchback looked as if a “fat person had sat right in the middle of it” and created that really weird character line between the front and rear wheel arches.
