The people at STI have come up with their latest Subaru WRX STI Spec C for 2011.
However it is only available in hatchback form even when Subaru recently launched a STI sedan earlier this year. I suppose itís because Subaru still supplies the STI for Group N rallying and the hatchback is still the best format when it comes to wringing in the best laps due to its short overhangs front and rear. Anyway, the new car gets the usual lightweight goodies and some special extras too.
The 2.0liter flat-4 turbocharged unit gets the traditional (for a Spec C) ECU remap and the usual improved ball bearing twin scroll turbocharger (photo above). It also gets the water spray for the intercooler too. Power output is still at 304bhp and 430Nm as per the 2010 Spec C. What gets improved is the drive train. The rear diff is now a fully mechanical limited slip differential instead of what was once a torsen diff.
But I think the most noticeable change is that the front end of the car gets a new front crossmember. STI is keen to highlight this modification as there is an individual photo of itÖ.as well as the smaller Kei-Car sized battery, tire puncture kit (instead of a space saver), aluminium bonnet (this GR series of STI came with a normal steel bonnet instead of an aluminium one like the previous GD series of STI). This basically shows off the extra effort that they've put in so that the Spec C is a slimmer and trimmer WRX STI.
So aside from what has been mentioned, the Spec C still gets 17inch and 18inch wheels depending on the spec (no pun intended) of the Spec C, gold Brembo brake calipers and RECARO seats as an option.
