Another "Tuned by STI" tS - 2011 Subaru WRX STI tS

Sometimes, manufacturers are a little strange and this newly previewed 2011 Subaru WRX STI tS sedan is a good example of it. The TS here stands for “Tuned by Subaru” and follows the limited edition Legacy tS as well as the Forester tS models previewed recently. The STI tS is unique because it comes with a carbon fiber roof for a lower center of gravity and this improves handling. But it makes Subaru/STI seem strange in that the ultimate WRX STI recently previewed, the 2011 STI Spec C does not come with such a roof.

So if you want some carbon over your heads, you have to get the 4 door sedan WRX STI tS instead of the more potent Spec C version. Anyway, the limited to 400 unit STI tS gets what all tS tuned Subarus get – all the STI goodies. Carbon fiber roof, an aluminum bonnet, a front lip spoiler, an STI-tuned suspension & bracing, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, you get RECARO sport seats, a push-button ignition, and STI sill plates. What it doesn’t seem to have is the large goalpost-like wing at the rear. Another strange omission in my opinion.

You get two versions, one with the 2.0liter flat-4 turbocharged engine pumping out 304bhp/ 430Nm torque and a 6 speed manual transmission and another with a 2.5liter flat-4 turbocharged engine making 296bhp/350Nm torque with a 5 speed automatic transmission for lazier STI enthusiasts. This lazier STI is called the A-line.

The Japan only STI tS is limited to 400 units and is on sale in early 2011 for 4,020,000yen. I suppose this would not stop gray importers from bringing one over if there is demand.
