If you live in Australia and are craving for the new Subaru BRZ, hope you have the patience till early 2013, as all the cars for this year are spoken for. Apparently the Aussies were allocated only 201 cars for delivery this year, so Subaru Australia decided of a new way to sell the highly anticipated car.
Their solution? To sell them online, much like how we buy movie or concert tickets.
Within a short span of just 3 hours, all the cars had been sold – or ordered with a proper sales contract completed. You don’t just reserve the car but put up a proper deposit between three to five thousand Australian dollars. The website attracted eight buyers in the first five minutes alone, and the first order was completed in a brisk 20 minutes. 50 BRZs were sold in the first 1.5 hours while Subaru’s website traffic initially quadrupled .
The BRZ is retailed at $37,150, and while Subaru is continuing to take orders, it will not be able to deliver the cars until early 2013.
