Prior to its global premiere at September's Paris Motor Show, General Motors has released the first set of photos and details regarding Chevrolet’s latest compact Sports Utility Vehicle, the Trax. The car will be marketed in more than 140 countries towards the end of the year and in early 2013 after its debut in Paris.

Based on the Buick Encore and Opel Mokka, the Trax measures 4,248mm long and 1,776mm wide with a wheelbase of 2,555 mm. This makes the car physically larger than one of its competitor, the Nissan Juke. The large upright Chevrolet grille and black padding on the body panel give the SUV a boxy outlook.

According to the Detroit carmaker, the interior of the Trax will feature multiple storage areas, including bins on both sides of the center stack as well as under pass seat tray. In addition, the boot has a secondary stowage under the cargo area, giving it a total capacity of 358 liters. On top of that, the vehicle a 60/40 split rear bench.

The European model will be offered with three engine options that include a 1.6L naturally- aspirated petrol, a turbocharged 1.4L petrol engine with 138 bhp and a 1.7L turbocharged diesel delivering 129 bhp and 300Nm of torque. Both the 1.7L diesel and the 1.4L turbo gasoline engine will be offered with optional six-speed automatic transmission and AWD. Start/Stop function is standard on all manual versions of the Trax.

If the design of the Juke is too radical for your likings, the Trax might be a viable choice.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
