These are the first official photos of the 208 GTi before its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show on 27 September 2012. Subtle exterior updates includes a revised front grille, black rear diffuser that houses four trapezoid tail pipes, LED headlights and red GTI logo on the C-pillar.
"The 208 was an excellent base for developing a sports hatchback," commented Marie Beaumont, 208 GTi Dynamics Manager. "We have worked with particular attention on the steering response, the chassis dynamics and the rigidity of the suspension. The 208 GTi successfully combines performance, safety and driving pleasure."
The 208 GTI will be powered by a familiar 1.6-litre turbocharged ‘Prince’ engine. In this application, it produces 197bhp with a peak torque of 275 Nm. Mated to a 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission which delivers the power to the front wheels, Peugeot claims the hot hatch is able to complete the century sprint in less than 7 seconds before reaching a top speed of more than 225km/h.
To enhance the driving experience of the new GTI, Peugeot has equipped the car with sport springs, anti-roll bars and a re-tuned the steering system. Wrapping around new 17-inch alloys are tires which are 10mm wider at the front and 20mm wider at the rear. The car benefits from larger ventilated brake discs as well.
To celebrate the launch of the car, Peugeot will offer a Limited Edition version in Satin Pearlescent White colour. In addition, the 17-inch wheels are fitted with red aluminum caps while the lower bar of the front grille will bear the colors of the French flag.
