Russian automaker Zavod Imeni Likhachova (commonly known as Zil) was once known as the Rolls Royce of the Soviet Union and is also known for making armoured limousines and up-scale sedans for the influential in Russia and also for former Soviet officials.

Although the company does not mass produce such cars anymore, but that does not mean that they won’t have any new models. The pictures that you see here shows the company’s new prototype which is currently known as the Zil 4112.

As a whole, the 4112 is basically the same as the limousines that the company manufactured decades ago. But some exterior parts have been redesigned to give the 4112 a more modern outlook. The car gets plastic body-coloured bumpers, a chrome grille and modern-looking rear lights.

The 4112’s rear end gets several modern touches as well. Gone are the Mercedes W126-like rear lights that were found on ZIL limousines previously, the 4112 is equipped with upright units. Interior wise, the car can sit up to six passengers and its list of standard equipment is rather lengthy.

Buyers will get a television screen, a mini fridge and four independent climate control systems. Rear passengers are treated to several square feet of real wood trim, curtains, and lavish leather upholstery. As some would know, the interior of ZIL limos can be customised and that means the equipment and trimming list is pretty much endless.

Under the enormous front bonnet sits a 7.7 litre V8 engine that generates around 400bhp and it is able to pull the car up to a top speed of 200km/hr. That is no mean feat as the car weighs almost 3,500kg. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five speed automatic transmission built by Allison Transmission.

Production of the ZIL 4112 will start in the next couple of months and pricing of the car will be greatly based on how the interior is configured.
