Jaguar moderates expectation on X-Type successor

Jaguar is close to giving the go-ahead for the highly-anticipated replacement for the aging X-Type saloon.

The new X-Type will be built upon the Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA) aluminium platform which made its debut in the Mk4 Range Rover. This is a highly flexible platform that will underpin the next generation XF and XJ resulting in substantial cost savings.

The new X-Type will be powered by a variety of fuel efficient four-cylinder engines. However, Jaguar global brand director, Adrian Hallmark, moderated consumer’s expectation of its upcoming BMW 3-Series competitor.

He said, “It took Audi 20 years to build up to where it is. For us to come in and go to the top of the league is impossible, so we have to find ways of expanding our business profitably and we’re well developed in that process. We are undergoing creative analysis of competitors and consumers.”

Hallmark adds that all models in the compact luxury segment are good and trying to find a gap to exploit is a real challenge. Jaguar did a good job with the XF and XJ by giving a modern spin to its old school charm.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
