Watch hackers mess with a Jeep's engine, brakes and gearbox
We are sure not many people are aware of how easy it is for hackers to access the functions of modern cars and this video will is a good reminder of how dangerous a connected car can get if automakers don't improve the security of their increasingly connected vehicles.
With the help of hackers Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek, Wired Magazine used Jeep's Cherokee to demonstrate what they meant.
Making use of software that lets them send commands through Jeep’s Uconnect, its internet-connected entertainment system, the hackers played with the car that was driven by editor Andy Greenberg. The chilling experiment saw the hackers accessing the air-conditioning, the radio and the windshield wipers, before moving on to more 'life-threatening' stuff like killing the engine, transmission or the brakes.
