The car they were driving is a 1976 AMC Pacer. The actual car, recently restored is going up for auction at Barrett-Jackson in Las Vegas, and one lucky person took home the flame-emblazoned baby blue coupe that Wayne and Garth used for US$37,400.

blogentry-114362-0-14894400-1476674666_thumb.jpgThe car has been brought back as close to movie spec as possible. Close, since the stereo and speakers have been updated. We can only hope the future owner finds a cassette deck to remedy this clear oversight. Other than that, everything appears as it did in the 1992 film. That means mismatched wheels and a hole in the roof for the licorice dispenser. Much of the mechanicals, including the exhaust, water pump, power steering pump, alternator, and battery were replaced. The two-tone interior also seems to be all-new.

Movie cars can be finicky and tend to go to someone with a deep love for the source material. This particular Pacer is one of the most iconic of all time, in part due to its relative lameness compared to classics like the Smokey and the Bandit Pontiac Trans Am or the Aston Martin DB5 from James Bond films. This looks to be one of the cleanest AMC Pacers still running.

Google "worst cars ever built" you will find this car in the top 10. Known for being a gas guzzler and a rust bucket it's an insult to the word "iconic".

  • It's okay, you're just feeling ambivalent

I almost always struggle to describe my state of mind when asked to consider how I'm feeling. How do you express emotions that exist together but work in opposition to each other? When invited to join a gathering with friends, I delight over the prospect of catching up but also yearn to be lounging at home. I'm inspired by an accomplished co-worker yet envy her. I feel happy about a new beginning but nervous and, at the same time, sad over the closing of a chapter.  It's complicated. A
