Other than the aesthetic changes found in our HR-V, the new car will be receiving a few refinements like an increased in sound-deadening material in the front bulkhead and wheel arches, the boot structure and both front and rear door panels. Higher specced models will also receive Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) to further reduce noise. Elsewhere, the Europeans get new 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels that are unique to them.

That said, with the standard six-speed manual gearbox, the HR-V will do the century sprint in 10.7 seconds while the CVT variant will need 11.2 seconds to the same sprint. Fuel consumption falls to an impressive 18.8km/L.

Interestingly, in 2019, the European buyers will have the option of getting a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that makes 170bhp and 220Nm of torque in the Civic.

When invited to join a gathering with friends, I delight over the prospect of catching up but also yearn to be lounging at home. I'm inspired by an accomplished co-worker yet envy her. I feel happy about a new beginning but nervous and, at the same time, sad over the closing of a chapter.  It's complicated. A
