George Yeo joins Kuok Group as vice-chairman of Kerry Group (HK)

By Rachel Chang

Former foreign minister George Yeo has joined the Kuok Group as vice-chairman of its Hong Kong holding company, Kerry Group.

In a post on his Facebook profile, he said the appointment takes effect from Jan 1, 2012, and that he will be based in both Hong Kong and Singapore.

The Kerry group - primarily a property firm - also owns a controlling stake of the South China Morning Post, the most successful English-language newspaper in China and Hong Kong.

In October, Mr Yeo had taken up a senior adviser role, what he called an 'informal arrangement' in the Kuok Group, a Malaysian conglomerate run by 'sugar king' Robert Kuok.

According to The Straits Times., George Yeo will step down from his role as grassroots adviser in Aljunied group representation constituency on 1 January next year. Does that means that he will not be contesting in the next GE ?

This is rather strange for George Yeo to step down from his role as grassroots adviser in Aljunied GRC, when few days ago, LHL just told his party that they are going to win back Aljunied GRC and he has looked to LBH to lead a team to win back Aljunied GRC in the next election due by 2016..

George Yeo know that he got no chance to win WP next election 2016 and turn down LHL offer to recontest in Ajunied. Hence LHL looked to LBH instead . Look like LBH will kena "watershed election" jialat jialat again this time. Then LBH will be history also [:p]

Maybe GY too popular for his own good. Must take precautions for a post MM era.

It is known GY had some disagreements with LHL regime. He alerted LHL of people's great anger/discontentment against PAP,which lead to LHL apologizing on his rally.

It is not known whether they not willing to relate to the anger or GY finally gave up.
