Porker Turbocharged April 14, 2014 Share April 14, 2014 I saw this old lady selling packets of tissue paper near Parkway coupla days ago and noticed she had a license to sell. Is it really true that they are charged $120 per month for the license (or so I heard)? ↡ Advertisement
Shull Turbocharged April 14, 2014 Share April 14, 2014 (edited) Probably categorised under NEA hawker license.. and then it comes the question, whether NEA actually enforces it or closes one eye to those who peddle tissue paper Edit: Found something from the MSM.. http://www.straitstimes.com/the-big-story/case-you-missed-it/story/braving-rain-haze-and-snubs-sell-tissue-20130630 Edited April 14, 2014 by Shull
Nzy Twincharged April 14, 2014 Share April 14, 2014 I think most don't have the license but then no one bothers. I also encounter one old woman selling tissue every morning. Someone drops her off at the same time everyday and she will just sit there and sell tissue and then the same car will come and pick her up later. Could be from China or Thailand under social/tourist visa. After "work" you may find them staying in Hotel 81, not temple. Monks are supposed to receive alms in the form of food, not cash. Rustyz 5th Gear April 14, 2014 Share April 14, 2014 (edited) I see those vendors be it sell tissue or soft toy with a sort of cert thingy with them. I think it is more like a notice that they are handicap and is someone who truly need help and not some conman. But I don't see such vendors in shopping mall food courts leh .... ? They can't go such shopping mall, mrt and etc as the security guard will chase them away. This applies to student who need to clock Community involvement project. If can afford to help them, just help donate lo.Earn Karma points ( Only those truly need help one) Edited April 14, 2014 by Rustyz
Count-Bracula Twincharged April 14, 2014 Share April 14, 2014 There's this blind uncle in his late 60's selling tissues at 30 cents per pack outside Clementi Mall near one bakery. I was at T*ast B*x for a cuppa and bought from him 2 packs for $2.("Uncle, please give me 2 packets" I said). After 5 mins and feeling sad that most passer-bys ignored him, I went up to him, disguised my voice and said in a lower tone, "Uncle, please give me 2 packets" and gave him $10. He looked in my direction and thanked me asking "Just now 2 packets not enough? Thank you, Sir." I mumbled to him "ehh, uncle please take care and good luck" rather sheepish . . how he know??

Atonchia Supersonic April 14, 2014 Share April 14, 2014 $120? Could be for those type selling at a fix location like set up table. Roving one still need licence? Need to weed out FT? I ever encounter one XMM, asked me as I was having dinner with wife at a hawker centre,'Anyway to earn money?' I was quite puzzled and ask her how she would want to earn $$$$. Then she explained she can from some village to SG to study, want to supplement income, I told her if you need immediate income, the ROI is very good, go to those ABC store buy a bundle of tissue paper and sell 3F$1, she made a quick calculation and head off. So the licensing is to segregate them from the local old pple? or purely to get a piece of the meat? or rather bone?
