Reuters) - The head doctor fighting an outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in Sierra Leone has himself caught the disease, one of a growing list of medical workers infected while battling to halt its spread across West Africa.

There was a movie on Ebola, Dustin Hoffman was the leading actor, remember now, it's called Outbreak.

Also there was a documentary on stating there is a virus that's more dangerous than AIDS which requires the highest level of containment by the CDC of USA.

Scary thing is we are going to see more of such outbreaks in future due to loss of habitat, urbanisation meaning greater exposure to carriers like Monkeys and fruit bats.

Right now the means as of transmission is still through direct contact of fluids like tears, saliva or mucus, so is still not as virulent as airborne virus.

Imagine it mutate and become airborne,

in an Airbus 380 with configuration of up to 500, on single flight may have higher incidence of exposure.

Ebola is a virus that has one of the highest death rates of any known disease. Of those who are infected, some ninety percent will not survive. The disease is characterized by flu like symptoms, excessive bleeding from bodily orifices, hemorrhaging, organ failure, and (ultimately) death. If that weren’t enough, the disease is highly infectious and contagious. In fact, in 2012 researchers in Canada working with Ebola determined that the deadliest form of the virus can be transmitted by air. Notably, they discovered that it can be passed via air between species. Fortunately, Ebola has been mostly restricted to localized parts of Africa, as lack of roads restricts an infected person’s ability to travel and spread the disease. Moreover, areas that have infected individual are subject to strict quarantine.

This is our only defense—quarantine and travel restrictions. There is no vaccine and no cure.

( At end of article, it talks abt a research into the cure for Ebola )

In the study, the team gave Macaque monkeys infected with a disease similar to Ebola two doses for BCX4430 a day for 14 days. The results were very promising. The monkeys who weren’t given the treatment were dead by day 12, whereas all but one monkey who was given BCX4430 survived. What’s more, this molecule could open the door to potential cures for similar viruses, like SARS, influenza, measles, and dengue.

the scary thing is ......it seem like the viruses are getting smarter and smarter.................like you mention......all it takes is for one to get into the plane.........and the virus gets transported all over the world............. [:(] [:(]
