RadX Moderator September 24, 2014 Author Share September 24, 2014 India newsreader fired for pronouncing China president Xi Jinping's name as 'Eleven' Jinping Posted on 23 September 2014 | 4,053 views | 12 comments More Sharing Services PHOTO: Youtube screengrab This article is contributed by the Stomp Team. Pronunciation cost an Indian newsreader his job when he mistakenly said China president Xi Jinping's name as 'Eleven' Jinping. According to Indian Express, the TV news reader from Doordashan, a public service broadcast in India, mistook 'Xi' to be the Roman numeral 11. It is understood that he has since been fired. The mistake happened during a late night bulletin, generally read by casual newsreaders as the regulars do not prefer to work at that time.
Watwheels Supersonic September 24, 2014 Share September 24, 2014 (edited) Too bad Xi Jinpin is not from Rome but China. For our culture there are a lot of Chinese names around so it's not an issue for us to pronounce something that starts with "X" but other foreigners will definitely struggle when they applies it into English or their own language.
