Geniuspear 2nd Gear September 27, 2014 Share September 27, 2014 Im considering a few car to change due to family planning as currently driving a SSS manual. Shortlisted a mazda 6 as the design is pretty sweet and also auto so wife can drive. space wise also pretty gd, and impressive boot space. I was wondering any mazda6 driver here? I had shortlisted 1 unit and test drove it. depri is 9k and 1 owner. Tested and feel that car handles and drives well, with no wierd or unusual sound/vibration during the short test. I was wondering if there is anything i should look out for. Its a 5AT gearbox so im not too sure if there is any known problem with it. Coming frm a manual owner, im pretty scare of auto transmission as heard alot of story from frens that gearbox piang etc Would love to hear from fellow mazda 6 owner here. I also shortlisted the lancer ex GT however the depri is more than 10k+ easily, and feedback from my friends is he will pick a mazda 6 anytime because they feel that the depri is too high for a lancer ex. ↡ Advertisement
evidence 2nd Gear September 27, 2014 Share September 27, 2014 Mazda spare parts more expensive. Gearbox is quite lasting but must b w proper maintainence..... Lancer's gb some concerns....may not be as robust as others.... To b safe.... I think toyota is more reliable generally.... Just my thoughts.. En0203 2nd Gear September 28, 2014 Share September 28, 2014 I am driving a 1st generation Mz6 too, though a manual one. My previous Mz3 sp20 was an auto though, which I redline almost daily. Conventional auto with torque converter is quite hardy. Never had any problem with my early 4 speed autobox despite the constant torture. The newer 5 speed auto in the Mz6 sp should be as durable, at least I have not heard of any terrible story on Mazda's autobox yet. Things you may want to take note though, for an 7+ years old car, the following parts may need replacement soon, or hopefully it's been replaced by the previous owner: wheel bearings suspension arms and bushing engine mounts These are typical wear and tear items. However, if you are unlucky, you may also need to replace timing chain, aircon coil or compressor, just like mine. Mazda parts can be expensive, so do keep at least $5k as contingency when buying old Mazdas', though I would say the same wear and tear would apply to other brands as well. Have not tried or own Lancer before so no comment on it. Hope this helps.

Own one before, and definitely recomend this, very good for cruising and driving, and space is good. Have not had much issue, but do mostly highway driving. Since trade-in at 7k, having a upgrade from 8-9k sounds pretty ok.

My fren told me to nego til below 9k, anything more is not worth it for a mazda 6. wad u guys think? I have brought 13 used cars since I got my driving licence. My way of dealing with these blood sucking dealers is....... I like this car and this is my willing depri per year....they dun want, it ok...you can continue to park it here....call me when you are willing to sell at my price. Bottom line, DONT give in to them. Oh yes, i also don't play FOOTBALL with them.
Dgyew Neutral Newbie October 1, 2014 Share October 1, 2014 Every car has it's price, and will go down over time if kept there long. And depending on the number of cars available. Mazda 6 is quite a popular used car due to it's good pricing and reliability, and if there is a good condition one, it normally get snap up pretty fast. My colleague sold one to a Agent, and once go up in sgcarmart, was sold within just a few days.

If you can find, go for the 2.3 SP (very very rare)... similar depreciation as the 2.0 but with a more powerful 2.3 ltr engine, and comes full kitted... body kit, black out headlight & tail-light covers, HID headlight, memory seat, sunroof... I have been driving a 2.3 SP for 4 years now.. car total mileage for almost 9 yrs 170k km and counting... if u r into driving, offers lots of fun & usable space at a reasonable price (though i think paying 9k per year is too high) It's generally a reliable car though you got to note the mileage... most of my parts replacements likes engine mountings, upper & lower arms, drive shaft occur after 100k km... then there are other things like gasket seal cracked, pipe leakage that occur after 150k km (not bad considering the mileage isn't it)... Find a mechanic that you can trust (i do pay a bit more for service), and save by buying parts original/OEM parts from stockists direct or recon parts from workshop n u should be good to go There are still plenty of the 1st gen Mazda 6 (GG) on the road and so far I have no problem sourcing for parts (i usually go to Chin Hon, Fong Yat is a reluctant 2nd choice for me) All the best in your negotiation.... Rem, it's a buyers market Btw TS, what's the mileage of the car that you are eyeing? Edited October 1, 2014 by Notsogoodman
Geniuspear 2nd Gear October 2, 2014 Author Share October 2, 2014 milage of the car i eyeing is 140k. went to ask a colleague to help me check out the car ( we r automotive industry ), he told me no accident, car was resprayed before. his feedback was tat car i eyeing can be considered. However he note that the engine mounting was worn off already. spoke to dealer who say he cld only shave off 1k+ off the price which mean depri is still around the 9.9k-10k range. he say car was purchased frm agent so their margin not much ( nt sure true ornot ). Had a discussion wid my frens and they say with a 10k depri budget i got alot of other choice. They say i could increase abit and get a camry instead, cfm no headache. however really like the mazda6 as more sporty and interior wise quite swee. but depri 10k quite a turnoff. Yah, wait till you realise a 1.6 Altis is shouting above 9K dep, a 1.5 Vios is shouting at 9K dep, a 1.6 Forte is shouting at 9K dep. Yes, many choices...and many worse choices too. The market for 2nd hand cars is thereabout. At most shave off 1-2k from asking price. U want to play the take-it-or-leave-it game with them, i can tell u most of them won't bite. Look for an older 6 then, easier to get a better deal... Any records for the 140k mileage 6? No car can run away from wear & tear, it's better to know what was done... Japanese cars are so expensive. Last time no body want this model and selling for $4.5k. I would rather get a Subaru Legacy/Forester, non-turbo version if want to go light on petrol and maintainance.
