My Subaru R2 Aircon when idling is not cold, when cruising is cold. Cruising along expressway is cold but when come to traffic light stop, Aircon is not cold. BTW, I have just changed new Compressor and dryer.

Is this Subaru R2 Characteristic? Any member have this issue too?

Just go to a good A/C repair shop to troubleshoot.

Same thing happened to my car previously, and the workshop only topped up A/C gas, which helped, but went back to square one after a month.

When to specialised shops which they cleaned with a machine and replaced the A/C gas.

A/C is cold till now

a leak is always a leak, no matter how you clean with machine or not.

How long ago did you clean?

While driving, we may not be utilising the maximium torque the engine could deliver all the time. For smaller engine cars, the air-con utilises this spare torque available to operate the refrigerant compressor, to delivers the cold air.

When car idling, there is none of this spare torque to utilise, so the refrigerant compressor is shut down. The engine would needs regular overhauls if the idling engine is made to operate the refrigerant compressor (like an over-rev engine).

Ideally replace car with one having a more powerful engine.

engine big or small the theory is the same. What talking you??? [dizzy]

Had it machine cleaned for about 4 mths now.. so far so good.

Not what the first workshop did when the 'topped up A/C gas'... Perhaps just charged me for washing the heat exchanger. the coolness lasted less than a month

The second workshop checked and said the gas pressure is right, but not able to cool, so it could be a choked valve and cleaning the system did the trick.

so i see, not just a simple task of loading and reloading of gas. Guess the cleansing with machine is not cheap though,

how was the cleaning done? need to dismantle anything? or was it done via a "dialysis" machine?

Correct bro, the portable dialysis machine lookalike.

The purged gas sure looks black

ok. if using that machine, refrigerant and compressor oil are renewed. last time, there used to be a buddyclub product that was effective in making aircon colder.

Why cruising air con is cold because of rushing air but when at traffic lights air con not cold because no air rush, so the fan is supposed to work to cool the evaporator. It sounds like a tell tale sign of fan issue.

When your car is parked, on the air con to see if the fan is running. if it doesn't, U should not use the air con further because without the fan running, you risk the compressor damaged. Get the fan and related components to it checked.
