Reckless Scooters

Lately I been encountering a lot of reckless scooters weaving in an out of heavy traffic. It seems most of the reckless ones are driven by Caucasians, they drive fast and weave in and out expecting cars to automatically give way. I nearly crushed one that abruptly cut into my lane when the car in front of him jam brake, lucky I also jam brake in time to avoid him otherwise he'll mess up my bumper.

Do you guys encounter these idiots on the road? I work in the City which I believe has the highest density of such self indulgent wieners.

Also on the rise are idiots on micro scooters on the road.

I've encountered many reckless riders and drivers on the road but I don't think I will go to the extend of calling them idiots.

So let's say if you hit a motorcyclist, would your first concern be his "idiotic" life or your precious bumper?

There is already a thread to bash motorcyclists.

Do we need another one?

I typically keep a wide berth from cyclist/motorist, signal my intentions in advance etc the usual things which makes everyone daily motoring more pleasant.

Most riders generally know the rule of the road, However if a rider (like the one today) decides to swerve into my lane leaving a meter between my front bumper and himself then IMO he is an idiot, if I am to be honest if I did hit him I doubt I would have felt overwhelming sympathy. You might think its harsh but I respect other road users big or small and I take dim view of those who don't.

Thanks for pointing out the other thread, I posted this in complaints but wasn't aware of another one in generals section. Possible to merge?

Not sure if this can be considered a motorcyclist since it's an electric bicycle.

Happened on 24 Oct 2014. He was traveling very fast on a pedestrian pavement. Knocked onto my car at high speed. Damage is $800+ and he is adamant on not compensating me? Lan lan....

from the video, it does not seems the first thing you check if the cyclist was injured or need medical attention .. [thumbsdown]

On first look, does not look injured. Your're right, should have asked him.

But then he was so desperate to ride off again that he did not even ask for compensation for his injury? Go figure...

The view on the left is blocked by fencing wall, only when you accelerated out abit more and happened to see the cyclist on the left chiong down without stopping to check whether is there any car exiting out of condo.

For me, I am extra careful when making exit, left turn or right turn when the vision is obstructed by wall, trees, fencing etc.

Another thing that I always get irritated is when making left turn or exit, I don't know why some motorist like to cut/overtake on the left. It's very dangerous when they make that move. I usually will keep towards the extreme left close to the kerb so that they have no chance to pass through on the left side.

Suay man this one really lan lan, I dun think u were going too fast out of the Campark unfortunately That cyclist happen to spring out just ask you cleared the hump. Got buy 4D ? For old people have to give chance take it as good karma? There are lots the them on the road moving cardboard or cycling against traffic in Chinatown, but they usually keep left and quite slow giving ample reaction time.

If govt wants to encourage cycling they need to put down some proper foundations, I seen foot bikes faster than this on footpaths before, what irks me is like your situation after they knock down someone they just pedal away few will actually stay to help.

I have no sympathy for anyone over 8 years old who rides along pavements across pedestrian crossings at high speed without giving any regard whether they can be seen by drivers at the junction. They are simply asking to be knocked down sooner or later. Like in this case.

Fortunately, you have your video which keeps reminding us how important it is to have one installed in a vehicle. It is long overdue for LTA to have these electrically driven bicycles regulated and sufficiently covered for assurance in some way albeit without the need for COE. Perhaps we can use such video to push LTA and the relevant ministry to look into ensuring that such road users bear certain amount of responsibility towards other road users?

Fortunately I have a camera installed. Else car vs electric bike, ppl naturally assume car is speeding or at fault.

This happened at paya lebar near the traffic police headquarters. There is a childcare centre at the Trinity church beside condo. Hope no child gets injured before the govt starts to regulate electric bikes on footways.

These days there are so many reckless scooters, bicycle riders, pedestrians who listen to ear buds

and cross the road looking at their handphone as well as reckless drivers.

I just make sure I don't hit them. People can drive in a way they never get into

an accident. Too bad for them they don't know how to do this.

:D
