hmmmm.......... MOF requesting your suggestion for Budget 2015

CNA news: Public invited to give ideas, suggestions for Budget 2015

SINGAPORE: Individuals, households and businesses have been invited to give ideas and suggestions on possible measures for Budget 2015, and provide feedback on issues such as taxation and public spending, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said on Wednesday (Nov 26).

Members of the public can visit the REACH Pre-Budget 2015 microsite at www.reach.gov.sg/budget2015 until Jan 29, 2015, to submit their views online.

MOF has also launched the Budget 2015 website at www.singaporebudget.gov.sg, through which the public can access the latest updates on Budget 2015, as well as general information on the Singapore national budget process.

On Thursday, Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport Josephine Teo and Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Transport and REACH Vice-Chairman Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim will join around 80 Singaporeans at an MOF-REACH Pre-Budget 2015 Conversation to discuss ideas and suggestions for next year’s Budget.

In addition, MOF and REACH will stage three pre-Budget 2015 Listening Points across Singapore from December 2014 to January 2015. The Listening Point is an open booth for Singaporeans from all walks of life to share their views.

OK.... my suggestions

1) Reduce Defence Spending - more money channel to Health Care subsidy & medicines (out patient clinic - polyclinics)

2) Reduce Personal tax

3) Reduce transportation fare

4) Reduce education fee (all levels - pri to uni)

already coming to evening, mind can't think of any more after long day works... [grin]

1. Free education up to secondary school for all Singaporeans. This is an important step to taking ownership in our people.

2. Allow married couples to own jointly max. of 2 properties without additonal duties. This still maintains the 1:1 ratio of name to property but keeps the social fabric more tightly weaved.

3. Increase liquor taxes and disallow advertising of alcoholic brands and beverages. Drunk driving kills. Alcoholism destroys families.

4. Reduce tobacco tax and allow cigar smoking in aircon places as long as no one complains.

5. Allow tax payers of the highest bracket to decide where their tax dollas to go to. Eg. 50% healthcare, 30% education , etc etc.... This gives tax payers more ownership of the country's wellbeing.

6. Fix the price of COE at $50k and adjustments are made annually base on inflation rates. COEs must be paid upfront in cash. And loans on car prices to be curbed at 50%. This will take out all the ambiguity and anxiety of people buying cars.

7. Road tax to be determined by physical size of vehicle. It's only logical, right?

8. Parental relief for income tax to be raised to $10k at least. The numbers we have today are completely out of whack. It's like saying that you still can buy a 3 rm HDB for $50k.

9. Wife relief for income tax to be raised to $10k at least. The numbers we have today are completely out of whack. It's like saying that you still can buy a 3 rm HDB for $50k.

10. Cap usage of CPF on property purchases to 25%

1. Free education up to secondary school for all Singaporeans. This is an important step to taking ownership in our people.

Free til tertiary education (JC / Poly / ITE), so even those who are from the lower income group can come out with a fighting chance.

2. Allow married couples to own jointly max. of 2 properties without additonal duties. This still maintains the 1:1 ratio of name to property but keeps the social fabric more tightly weaved.

Each couple can still only own one subsidised HDB.

3. Increase liquor taxes and disallow advertising of alcoholic brands and beverages. Drunk driving kills. Alcoholism destroys families.

Wa, you don't drink, you want my tax increase.. Unfair wor.. It's already quite high. But drunk driving, fines up, and JAIL!

4. Reduce tobacco tax and allow cigar smoking in aircon places as long as no one complains.

Increase tobacco tax, and fine those smoking in the banned areas. Increase enforcement, increase fine.

5. Allow tax payers of the highest bracket to decide where their tax dollas to go to. Eg. 50% healthcare, 30% education , etc etc.... This gives tax payers

more ownership of the country's wellbeing.

I disagree with this. Quite elitist, and it sends the message that only the richest (or highest tax payers) can decide the future of the country, and everyone else doesn't matter.

6. Fix the price of COE at $50k and adjustments are made annually base on inflation rates. COEs must be paid upfront in cash. And loans on car prices to be curbed at 50%. This will take out all the ambiguity and anxiety of people buying cars.

Partially agreed, still unsure about COE being fixed at a certain price, but it will definitely make the market more transparent / clear.

7. Road tax to be determined by physical size of vehicle. It's only logical, right?

Yes.

Legalise marijuana and tax it, so that it adds to the budget. =D I've wanted to try, but it's illegal, so never had the chance.. =X

Turbocharged

The blue collared worker , after a hard days work at construction site , shipyard or factory floor , knocks off from work and heads to a nearby kopitiam . He orders an ice cold beer , or maybe an occasional stout , and lights up a cigarette. He takes a sip, smiles, and tells himself , " aaah....THIS IS LIFE " .

At the same time , the CEO knocks off from office and heads to the whisky or wine bar , and the towkays heads off to KTV and orders brandy . They take a sip from their favourite beverage , takes a puff off their Cuban cigars , smiles , and says " aaah......THIS IS LIFE " .

My suggestion for Budget 2015 :

Reduce or eliminate taxes on beer , stout and cigarettes . Increase taxes on brandy, whisky , wine and cigars .

Macam tiered ARF like that. [rolleyes]

You can pay $100 to smoke inside aircon now.

7. Road tax to be determined by physical size of vehicle. It's only logical, right?

Should scrap road tax since already got ERP/VEP/Custom toll.
