It's like that.. I have this mild tingling pain on my right ankle this few days and its not going away by itself it seems.. It just happen, and i didn't sprain my ankle or hit anything i could remember.. Now, with age catching up, I think this could be old man stuff, minor or major and thinking of getting a doc to check it out.

Then I'm stucked, I don't know who to look for.. Don't think normal gp could help, then if need to look for specialist, don't know how and who to look for..I heard if I just walk in, sure kena carrot and better to have polyclinic referral letter. What is the right approach to get an appointment to the right section to check up without burning a big hole in my wallet?

I know of an orthopedic surgeon in SGH whose speciality is foot & ankle : Prof Inderjeet Singh.

These days, one can call the Hosp direct to obtain apt without referral letter.

However, if u specifically request for a certain Dr, appt staff will inform u that it's advisable to opt for paying class (B1 at least) to have a earlier appt date.

Another way is get referral from GP or Polyclinic.....which in turn obtain appt for you to see any Dr in the same dept.

Anyway, your complain is quite common with ageing.......degeneration, overweight issue, etc....

Just go to the polyclinic and describe your problem to them and ask to be referred to a specialist.

The doctor will ask you which hospital you would like to be referred to. Specialist fees are generally quite cheap (below 50ish dollars? First consultation will cost more) and even if you need any scans, it should not cost too much.

am just curious what types of hospitalisation or medical insurance benefits you are covered? if u have coverage up till pte hospitals, then go for specialist check ups. if a surgery or procedure is reqd, the payout will even cover the pre-consultation period. do note that the pre-c period varies, ranging btwn 90-180 day, for all ins companies. Post ops surgery or procedure is also covered...chk with your ins provider via their helpline. it helps to have your ins cov verified so that you need not even worry about a hole in your wallet. in fact, no loss of savings, except some downtime doing the checks.

all the best, hope the info is useful.
