Most accurate time to check enginer oil level

Hi all,

 

this is quite an amateurish question...what is the best time to check engine oil level?

 

when the car is cold? when the car is running for a while? or when the car is running for a long time?

 

any advise?

What i was told by my mech tat to do it accurately afer the car has warmed up.

It's best U check them first thing in e morning or first time the moment u wan 2 drive 4 e day. That's wat I learned during my NS days

In the morning before you start the car.

Like what most bro mention, check it when engine is cool. I found this website that tells you to start the engine up and let the oil flow for awhile(abt 5-10sec) then turn off the engine and check the oil level.

there seems to be 2 school of thoughts here...

 

1. 1st thing in the morning. will the oil be at the oil sump as engine is not running and thus the oil level is not operational level.

 

2. after the car runs. then the reverse is also true...is the reading accurate as the level may be higher as the oil is circulating.

I think first thing in e morning will b better, it will show u the exact amt of oil.
