Thinking of buying a 2nd hand RX8. May I know what are all the maintenance that has to be done for this car? Is it expensive?

 

Also, how is the FC like?

FC is between 6l to 9l per km. Rem not to go to those so called rotary specialist to service ur car.. U can get better n more sincere mechanic from other more honest workshop tat will not rip u apart.

This car only takes mineral engine oil and needs to service every 5000 km.

Use Idemisu mineral racing Engine Oil 4litre at only $30 for every 5000km

Good to know the Spare part agent of mazda. As u can get the spares direct from them, and juz neg the larbour with ur preferred workshop. U can save alot from there.

Not advisable to mod this car, as it's really sad to see ppl spend so much yet so little gain.

It's not tat scary to own a rx8, juz dun be the next carrot victim

Should be 6-9Km/L not 6-9L/Km.!,This car also 'drinks' Engine oil,1L/1000Km.

Pretty much is all covered by the bros liao, Another thing the older RX8 has a lot of funny sound, so don't complain after you get one. Example the Steering area got knocking sound when driving at uneven road, another one is the coolant light turns on at times. It is due to the coolant tank sensor, but that requires to replace the whole assembly. Just to let you know some common problems for RX8. But if you get the newer gen RX8 the problems are lesser.

 

Must always check engine oil level!! This engine consumes engine oil and only mineral oil or the Special Rotary oil to be used. If you use normal synthetic oil, your rotary apex seal will be gone very fast.

 

Otherwise, this is a fun car to drive. It is not about the power but the overall balance of the car.

When you say every 5000km changing of the engine oil, is there any other things to do during this maintenance?

For my ex car, I dun go back service at mazda motor. COS THEY ARE FREAKING SLOW!

 

Usually i will follow the service checklist by MM.

Anyway, a friendly advise, dun try those so called "Rotary specialist" workshops. Unless u got tons of $ & dun mind ppl milk u like a cow...
