Donut Supercharged April 10, 2012 Share April 10, 2012 i totally agree. Just look at the low wage earners; cleaners, bus drivers, construction workers, etc. their wages have not changed abit since 10 years ago, while the wages of top earners jumps in leaps and bounds!!! Something is very wrong.........

Just look at the low wage earners; cleaners, bus drivers, construction workers, etc. their wages have not changed abit since 10 years ago, while the wages of top earners jumps in leaps and bounds!!! Something is very wrong......... why their salary not changed is due to cheap labor from other countries...it make the pay frozen since 10years ago....but those in upper level earner continue to make more money so the gap increase..this is a society problem and it will come a time where thing get out of hand.... Acemundo Supercharged April 10, 2012 Share April 10, 2012 He is the CEO's uncle-in-law so what? the law of nature and survival doesn't change just because of his good intentions or his status. i can understand he wants to address the imbalance but asking for it to come from top people within organizations is not going to work. if it will work, MIW would have accepted that theri talents aint worth so much and they will be contented to receive salaries as low as cabinet of USA. Acemundo Supercharged April 10, 2012 Share April 10, 2012 (edited) if the CEOs agree to this, LTA will also abolish COE/ERP... this suggestion is bordering on socialist ideals, cannot work in most economies la is like trying to bring equality in pay without considering the value or work and the scarcity of talents. CKP 3rd Gear April 10, 2012 Share April 10, 2012 (edited) Prof Lim's proposal has already been shot down as "impractical and suicide" by establishment economists and politicans like Inderjit Singh. No surprises there. Proposal is impractical, say economists Published on Apr 10, 2012 By Magdalen Ng The proposal to increase pay for the lowest income workers over three years while freezing salaries for top earners was deemed impractical and 'economic suicide' on Monday. Economists maintain that the plan would be nearly impossible to implement while possibly resulting in unintended but harmful effects on the economy. The proposal was put forward by Professor Lim Chong Yah, the founding chairman of the National Wages Council. He has suggested that all workers earning below $1,500 a month should get a 15 per cent pay rise in the first year, a further 15 per cent in the second and another 20 per cent in the third. Sosaria Turbocharged April 10, 2012 Share April 10, 2012 Restructuring wages is only part of the solution. When wages of "undesirable" jobs are raised, to the level that locals no longer shun these jobs, and will happily take up these jobs as the salaries are now enough for them to feed their families... what to do with the bunch of foreigners left over?? The other part of the solution is how to ship all these FTs back to their homelands?

Our hospitals not enough first class wards to save all the towkays when they have simultaneous heart attacks.

If they have no jobs here, they will leave on their own accord. There is no suggestion of a massive deportation exercise required; it is fun but purely speculative. Execute any changes in increments,;evaluate and then adjust accordingly to the situation. If the vast majority of "shunned" jobs in other first world countries have higher pay, then why not Singapore? ↡ Advertisement
