And you thought you have heard or seen it all...
From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1208639/1/.html Man charged with stealing rifle at Pasir Laba Camp By Alvina Soh | Posted: 19 June 2012 1951 hrs SINGAPORE : A technician has been charged in court with stealing a rifle from a Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) National Serviceman at Pasir Laba Camp. 30-year-old Mohammad Ridzuan Jamari was charged with one count of committing robbery while armed with a deadly weapon. He allegedly stole a "SAR 21" rifle from 22-year-old Kang Tai at the camp's Standard Obstacle Course on May 8 this year. Jamari was believed to be armed with a screwdriver, measuring 20 centimetres. He was working as a technician on a contract basis at the time of the incident at the camp. Channel NewsAsia understands that there were other people around at the time to apprehend Jamari. The rifle was also not taken out of camp. He will be back in court on July 16 for a pre-trial conference. - CNA/ms -------------------- -World’s Leading Distributor of MiG Parts- |

So the screwdriver is a deadly weapon? And stealing a gun is considered as robbery? I think this Ridzuan got very very brave heart to pull the stunt in a army camp! The justification of obtaining the stolen gun must be so overwhelming for him to carry out the robbery! Perhaps need to rob Casino? Or to one up the Samurai sword case? |

Something very wrong with our education system to raise such passive people.
A young man, given military training, holding a rifle, and let it be taken away by someone armed with 20cm screwdriver?? Like, 20cm is not very long... I think the SAR-21 still got length advantage, can be used to clobber the other guy. Some more, they were right in the middle of an army camp! I'm really scratching my head over this case. Next time our enemies don't need to get so sophisticated weapons... hardware store tools will do |

A soldier holding a rifle just hands it over to a civilian threatening him with a screwdriver?
Suddenly, I have grave doubts about our Armed Forces' ability to fight in a real war. Just kidding. There's nothing "sudden" about my doubts - I've harboured them for a long time. |
