Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any idea what is a better alternative for a 5-day roadtrip in California. Had earlier planned a stay in Yosemite National Park but that plan was nullified by the hantavirus in the region. I am staying around the Bay Area.
Another plan to drive north to Lassen Volcanic Park is dependant on the raging forest fires around the park.
Does anyone has any suggestion of an alternative plan?

Thanks.

I was there last year mid Oct for 2 wks. Besides driving to Yosemite, I covered the Southern parts and Coastal routes as well.

I stayed 5 nights in Union Square, after which I relocated to San Mateo, just 5 mins drive to airport for rental car return b4
check-in.
5 days to explore for u......a short day trip to Sausalito ( an artsy small town ) and Petaluma ( small & few factory outlet )
north of 'Frisco across the Golden Gate Bridge.
The rest of the days, either day trips or overnites somewhere southwards to places like Gilroy (very big sprawling factory outlets ),
Monterey, Carmel, Santa Cruz.
If you enjoy coastal drives, take the route between Half Moon Bay to Monterey.

If your're into driving as a pleasurable past time, get a reliable and stable car to enjoy the drive south of Carmel.

Action starts after Big Sur, cuts thru state parks and winding coastal cliff roads (route 1 ). Exhilarating drive, especially the
Stetches that are cliff hugging; mountains on one side and sheer drop down to the Pacific on the other! drivingcar.gif
Love it! Talking abt it makes me wanna do it again this coming Nov.
