Mr William Ashlock, with his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which has been clamped in the basement carpark of his condo since June 5. He claims that he used the car spaces only because the bike parking spaces were too small, the access route was too narrow and there was a blind spot during exiting. -- ST PHOTO: DESMOND WEE

Rather than cruising the streets of Singapore, Mr William Ashlock's 1800cc Harley-Davidson has spent the last three months left locked in a wheel clamp at his condo.

The management council of the Metropolitan Condominium took action after he parked that and another large bike in spots meant for cars.

Mr Ashlock claims the bike parking spaces provided are too narrow, as is a gap between a car space and a pillar that is used to access them. He said he was afraid of damaging his bike and other cars if he parked there.

Now the 58-year-old has put his foot down - and taken the matter to court.

If he paid for it specifically, why not?

But then, the parking lot didn't mentioned it's for CARS only. [:p]

parking lot is common, strata property in condo lah. if one can do as they like, does that mean that a condo owner can set up a prata stall at his carpark? [:p]

he thinks he's a resident, can do anything he wants? it's obvious that its not a norm for a bike to use a car lot.

if he has to take a car lot, then he should take the initiative to ask for permission from the building mgt or security to allow him to use it

idk le bro ... harleys tend to be larger and harder to get on also. not justifying what he is doing, but looking at the facts since this came out in the print edition. he claims the lots he measured are smaller and harder to maneuver into as well (hence perhaps why cant park in 2 bike lots?)

the building i maintain got 1 guy who got injured and got temporary handicap label. after expiry, still can see him struggling with limp, so we just let him use the handicap lot until someone with a proper label applies for or needs it (he is aware and agreeable to this in writing). can always follow the rules, but temper the decision with a little common sense. dont know why people tend to fight over the most mundane things ><

Maybe the court will order him to compromise and get a Vespa instead. :D

After selling his harley, he can get many Vespa and still park in the car lot [laugh] [laugh]

It is a private estate ...if he paid the same amount like other residents for a lot there...I don't see why he cannot park his bike.....perhaps..he should have registered the needs to the condo management first and all these issues can be avoided.
