Car Insurance Coverage "hire reward"

Imagine you are fetching a neighbor to work and this neighbor gives you a bar of chocolate. If you get into an accident, the injured neighbor is not covered by your private car insurance and he/she sues you.

This is because private car insurance excludes "hire and reward" usage. Carrying of passengers with payment in this case.

Anyone knows which insurer is willing to extend private car insurance to cover "hire and reward" ?

Buying commercial car insurance is out of the question because you are not running a business and the payment is low.

Chocolate is just an example. It could be $5.

We cannot control others's mouth, if insurer found out, the hole becomes deeper.

What about road head? Does that count as a reward? :D

The evidence is completely swallowed. [laugh]

You are referring to GrabHitch or Ryde passengers right?

If I am not wrong, GrabHitch/Ryde needs commercial car insurance.

I am referring to fetching neighbor/friends who pays and I continue with my private car insurance with appropriate coverage.

Incidentally, if you volunteer to chauffeur in your friend's wedding and you get an angpow, the passengers are also not covered by insurance, according to the black-and-white written in the policy.

Yes it does.

Worse, such activity is also in exclusion clauses "suicide...", "joy riding...", "incapacitated...", ...

If HE/SHE opens mouth and talk to insurer, you are liability.

Ah. Well, hopefully, she (definitely she!!!) has just as much to lose as I do if she opens her mouth. Which is why this is the best reward, everyone protects their own interests, plus it's awesome! :D

In legal and regulation, carpool with minimal payment is allowed and no business registration is needed.

But insurance does not cover.
