Genie47 1st Gear July 22, 2004 Share July 22, 2004 OK what is Molygraphite? Actually it is molybdenum disulphide. Contrary to the name I doubt there is any graphite. Graphite is basically carbon. When MoS2 goes onto metal surfaces, it fills up all the rough spots and makes them smooth. Go to this link to know more: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/moly.html Some oil has moly (RP) some oil don't use moly (M1). Moly is not always needed for lubrication. Some syn oil packages are so good that moly is not needed. I suspect Elf Molygraphite is an obsolete dino oil. BTW, the latest is SL rating. If your car is new from year 2001 onwards, use SL rated oil. Anything before 2001 can use SJ but why when SL is also backwards compatible?
