Used BMW 520 or Volvo S80 2.0 LPT/2.5T

Hi people,

 

Discovered this forum by chance yesterday and find it very interesting.

 

Like to hear your views on these used cars ( 2 - 3 years old ).

Don't want a new one cos the depreciation is nuts. Bought my current

car new.

 

If any of you are driving them, any advise will be helpful.

i'll go for 520... my personal perference...

 

i like 520 , looks & design...i think theres a few going at 150~160k right ?

Its great to have friend in high places.... cause you get to borrow them rides for short stints.

 

Both 2.0L powerplants could do with a shot in the arm of steroids. The chasis and structure is design with at least 2.5L in mind.

 

If I had to stick with 2.0L, I'd pick the Beemer simply cause its better equipped. But if i had to pick a 2.5L I'd go with the S80 simply cause its marginally quicker and a tad more efficient.

 

Repair costs for both a equally matched.

 

If you're looking to accessorise with aftermarket... Beng's Mechanical Wonder (no offense, just my acronym) wins hands down.

520 bro... the inline 6 is one of the best and sweetest sounding in the business...

 

One fokker from this forum drives it btw. His nick is Chief Hantu and he stays in Bukit Panjang

Yes the inline 6 is very sweet sounding indeed.

 

I have test driven them both.

 

The 520 was easy to drive cos the seating position is good

and the seat was real comfy, 3 position memory as well.

Yes the inline 6 was a dream and the ride was quiet, smooth

and the engine was very responsive, for a big car, esp when

you push the stick to the left and use the sequential shifting.

 

The S80 LPT was not lacking as well, a little bigger in the

back seat, same memory seat for driver like the 520. The ride

is maybe not as quiet as the 520 but acceptable. Power is just

as good althou there's no sequential shifting here. But i swear when

my right leg hit the metal, i can almost see the gas gauge move.

 

I am still scratching my head ...... Heads or Tails ???

Welcome to MCF. Ignore the innuendos of the ignorant...esp that clown who replied to you, aka BrandonS.....a real pain in the place where the sun dun shine

 

Have tested the 2, and have owned the 520 for 3 years now....sweet! is all I can say. Flawless, and if you are to get it, you would be getting the 'bulletproof' model...all creases ironed out.

 

The S80, is a tad noisy, but quicker off the mark definitely. Space wise, bith are about the same, but the icing that tops the cake is the inline 6of the 520

and must say...wise to get it resale....I got my car 10 mths after owner left SG, he lost a whopping 60k in 10mths
