your problem seems like what happen to my car a few months ago. later diagnose to be aircon magnetic coil spolit. repair is a few hundreds dollars. i think less than 500. cannot remember the exact amount.

Magnetic coil spoil ? Less then $500 for repair. I think not worth it for me to repair. Reason is because the car is going to be SCRAPED on 2011 June.

Look like if i need to repair , i got to buy my own spare part. But anyway , i got to get a good and trusted mechanic to diagnose the problem thoroughly before confirming what has really happen.

Anyone who has good good and trusted car mechanic to recommend ?

Just an update..

So far after last wk, the problem have not repeated itself.

Will still let the service center know though i doubt that they will

do anything about it.

But glad to know that the repair was cheap. May I know the address of the

shop you went to?

Thanks :)

It happened to my car. Initially, after I on/off/on off the car, aircon will be cold again. Subsequently the frequency increase, but not frequent like everyday but once a week. Didnt bother about it until one point not cold at all no matter on/off how many times. brought to workshop at AMK autopoint, was told problem with a magnetic switch. Didnt replace, just serviced it for $30 and aircon is ok till today. Dunno how long it will last though.

Hm , i don know how old is my condenser.

But as a whole , my car is quiet well kept. Since taking over from my cousin, get to redo up the whole car. Engine oil change, brake pad change etc etc .......But just recently change my air con filter located on the front row passenger sit. I always change my engine oil when it hit 5K. Japan made car is RELIABLE. It is going to hit 200k on my ODEO. Stil i think it beat most of the 2nd hand car out there.

Since then , the fan power is super , even i turn on the 1st level , the fan power is good. Used to turn to Level 2, but the fan speed kept diminishing since i took over the vehicle a yr ago. Then i decide to change my air con filter, stop short of asking him to check on my air con issue. Becos he will get somone to dignose the air con issue.

My workshop i am using now is more specialise in doing ENGINE. The car mechanic is a nice and honest chap, but as you know these repair shop always have their knife sharpened. The boss is really the BAD GUY. I have told the mechanic that i go back to his shop becos of HIS service.

Any one who can recommend a good air con mechanic ?

Guys, just to remind you all that if you have any air-con issues, just need to go to either Tomika (Ubi) or Mark Cool (Woodlands) as they are the air-con specialist.

Don't go to those car repair workshop like River View Auto as I have went to them on my air-con problem, they do not know how to resolve the problem but tell me a lot of nonsense reason like manufacturer design and it is like that.

At least, Tomika and Mark Cool offer me a solution to my problem so if you are not specialized in car air-con then just tell customer that you do not know how to do instead of giving me tons of reasons to cover up that you do not know how to do. [thumbsdown]

If it is manufacturer's design then why the other two air-con specialist workshop would have mentioned the same thing as they are doing automotive air-con many years.

Take note that River View Auto is normal car maintenance workshop and not specialized in automotive air-con so you should know who I should trust.

Last Generation of Toyota Corolla from Japan, before Thailand Toyota Vios and Altis .

That was my dream car. So sad that it went out of production by the time I decide to buy.

And I don't fancy second hand cars. Depend on how the previous owners' maintenance and servicing, these vehicles may be problem free or problem full.

Tomika will be better as they dun chop carrot but prefer to have many returned customer, one of the member here has also mentioned that he got a better pricing at Tomika to get his air-con components replaced compared to other workshops.

Ok.... my turn to have aircon problems.

Mine, you can hear the compressor kicking in & out rapidly frequently. (Loud tack, tack toggling back & forth). Then it might stop for a while after driving for abit, then the rapid switching occurs agin.

Another symptom is that the aircon get really colder than normal and it also has a sourish smell to it.

Any one has any idea what could be the problem?

Thanks

sourish smell is related to the air con filter and also the air refreshener u put inside

change ur air con filter,

remove all traces of smell emitting items

put charcoal jelly in ur ride.

park under hot sun for two hours ...

80% at least, of the odours will be gone...

But the smell only occurs when the aircon goes crazily cold (suspect the compressor stuck at on position).

When it behaves normally (periodic compressor switching) , then there is no smell.

Besides, I just changed my filter 2 months or so ago. I normally do a full service once every 50K kms. (flush the compessor oil + refill, fill gas)

Sourish smell is most likely due to leaking refrigerant.

You may like to have checks on your evaporator.. that is the most common source.

I had similar cut-ins, cut-outs before..

It was due to a 'gapping' issue at the compressor. Removed a washer and it was fixed.

Good luck with your fix. [thumbsup]

Just send my car to tomiko for air con repair. was very impressed as they are very experienced. just nice the boss was there and one look he know the problem. save me time and importantly $$$. RElay is the problem and took them 5minutes and only $40+ for a denso relay replacement. one very satisfied customer. [cool]

Befoer i went to tomiko, went to another general workshop (inside SPC station). the mechanic quoto me $450 to flush my aircon system saying its choke, blah, blah, blah......thinking i big carrot...

give them a excuse and quickly drive off...
