ok heres the thing about drop in air filters

oil based filters can screw the maf sensors [sweatdrop]

stainless steel filters allows the dirt to enter the engine more effectively than stock filters [sweatdrop]

what about aftermarket non oiled/non stainless steel, cotton based drop ins then ??? like simotas and apexis etc...

isit advisable to use these to replace the stock ones ??

keen on getting the simota drop in...

I've used K & N since my 2nd car back in 94' and now on my 6th car, I'm still using K & N oil-based filter, you need to know how to re-oil the filter after you cleaned it nod.gifnod.gifnod.gif

if you want a drop in i would suggest you stick with the OEM paper filters. contrary to what most aftermarket brands say, there is minimal to no drop in flow as compared to the other filters.

99% of the gains from using a pod filter is from the removal of the restrictive OEM intakes. and the paper filter in a standard system still flows more than the intake can flow.

if you're going pod, it doesnt matter if the filter id oiled or not. Just that many people don't know how to oil it properly thus resulting in damage to the sensor.

speaking of sensors there are 2 types. one type uses pressure and a temp sensor to calculate the amount of oxygen going in. the other uses a heated element and the ecu calculates the amount of oxygen from what the temp of the element should be vs what it is. the latter is the one that is affected by improperly oiled filter.

1) After washing, I'll use the hair dryer, set to hot air, to blow dry the filter elements, do not put the dryer too near the filter, do it as if you are drying your hair after shower.

2) Oil the element until you can see that all the element are cover with red oil (see thru' the element by putting the filter element against the lights or the sky)

3) Put some newspaper on the floor and leave the K & N air filter on top of the newspaper overnight, the newspaper will absorb any excess oil that have drip onto the newpaper.

4) The next day just pop-in the K & N filter.

** If during the period that the K & N filter are being wash, dry and left overnight, you need to use the car, just pop-in the original paper air filter to use for that day wink.gifwink.gifwink.gif

Simotas are required to be oil too.

If you really wan something out of Stainless steel and don't wan oil.

Get Apexi or Blitz.

anyway settled for the simota cotton drop in filter.....oiling is optional according to the box....so far pickup is better than stock.... my intake temp also approximately 10 degrees lower than stock...which mean im feeding cooler air into engine.... [thumbsup]

the ws that i bought from no longer carries the stainless steel ones....heard engine can clog up with ss ones.
