I helped my friend replace engine oil for this 2002 Ford Focus (in USA, 2.0 ZETEC engine).
He has about 60k km on his car, and I found that the middle part of the engine is oily, to the point of forming drips. This is observable near/under the exhaust manifold area.

Valve cover, oil pan, front/rear seals are completely dry. Does this mean the head gasket is bad? Is this a common problem?

problem solved. it is just the valve cover gasket. I looked carefully again.

These cars are famous for premature valve cover gasket problem.
