As above, has anyone tried Nexen tyres before? Was told by tyre shop its a "Kimchi" tyre which is relatively new in Singapore; did a search and can't find much info here.

I checked and a set of 205/45/R16 rated at 87W XL is S$60 cheaper than Thai made Eagle F1s.

More info @ http://www.nexentire.co.kr/english/product...=N3000&expend=1

Did a search on goggle and its compound contains silica, UTQG rating:

Threadwear @ 340

Traction AA

Temperature A

They seem pretty popular in the States for its performance and price, many have commented that its a quiet HP tyre.

Planning to trade-in stock 15" rims and 16K tyres for a new set of 16" rubber.

I'm not too sure of its price but as a package, its $60 cheaper than F1s.

Yep, $60 cheaper than F1s and $100 cheaper than ST115.

Above prices are quoted together with a set of 16" rims.

firstly : traction rating is not a definitive indication of tyre grip

secondly : traction rating is a rating of the ability of tyre to stop on wet pavement

if u read b/w the lines u should realise

1) not all rubber is created equal

2) not all "aa" rating tyres perform equally

3) even the same tyre on diff brands of cars and suspension setups perform equally

a lower threadwear aa tyre is better in all ways than a high one, anything above 300 is overkill for singapore, ur rubber will be hardened even b4 it reaches half threadlife

Test Procedure - Test tyres are mounted on wheels & inflated to 24psi (165kpa). These wheel / tyre assemblies are then fitted to the test (instrumented) trailer. Each tyre is loaded to 492kg (1,085lbs). The test trailer is towed over the wet concrete & asphalt surfaces at a speed of 65kph (40mph). Water depth is the same for each test. The trailer brakes are locked-on as the trailer reaches the wet section of the skid-pavement. The tires are dragged in this condition, the friction generated is measured. This test is done on the concrete & the asphalt surface. Twenty measurements are taken on each surface, these results are averaged to give a final result. Tyres are given a grading based on the friction they generate during the above test.

Application of Test Results - The tests for traction measure wet braking traction only, not straight ahead acceleration traction. The ratings achieved in these tests do not relate to cornering traction or peak-grip values like those achieved during non-skid braking tests.

There are quite a few models available, N2K, N3K and N5K; the latest N6K has yet to be released.
