Anyone knows where I can change the normal bulb for my interior roof lights to the bright LED type?

How much will it cost?

i was juz at autoB@cs and I saw quite a few brands and types there. looks like you only have to find the right type and juz connect. price ranges though.. $10 and up.

around $20~30 can get alrd, depends on how many LEB bulbs type. I know that there are advertiser in Hyundai & vios clubs. Try to search there.... beware, led bulbs blow quite fast.... within a year, my 24 LED bulb left only 6 or 7 only...

Techically LED can outlast normal bulbs but as much as twice it's lifespan. Is also brighter for the same energy consumption.

So i think in ur case is a matter of an inferior product with cheap circuitry.

Realy that bad? Then no point fixing. Defeats the purpose. Thanks for letting me know.

correct. LEDs generally outlast (>200,000 hrs) anything electronics if the correct voltage/current is applied to them. look around any used electronic equipment, chances are 99.99% you find the LED is still working fine [thumbsup]

some makers attempt to squeeze as much light output from the LEDs by pumping in more voltage/current, causing the LEDs to overheat and finally breakdown.

i had measured the current of the japan-made Luxer 12-LED compared to the stock halogen bulb in the roof lamp and found that the luxers only makan about 65mA compared to 600mA, an energy savings of almost 10x

LEDs only work propery in the correct polarity known as forward-biased.

when polarity reversed (reverse-biased), the whole LED does not conduct anything at all, no damage done, it'll be as bright as the ambient. [laugh]

the forward-biased operating voltage of the LED typically ranges 1.2V to 2.5V, so given the incoming 12V will kill the LEDs immediately.

to prevent this from happening, basic design is to use a resistor-chain to limit the voltage/current that goes into the LED. this all depends on the circuit design to ensure a longevity of the LED.

Does anyone know where can one buy just the LED bulb alone without installation, preferably from the wholesaler without packaging?

(edited)

I saw it at Toyogo Warehouse at Blk11 Toa Payoh Ind Park, off Toa Payoh Lor 8. It's located behind one of the Cashier Counter.

I may go down on Monday, if I can make it during lunch, to buy it, IIRC is was either $8 or $9 for those SM LEDs for interior lightings, I will also buy some to DIY for lighting up the front, 2nd row, 3rd row and leg area and also the small boot area wink.gifwink.gifwink.gif

5mm LEDs can be found everywhere in Sim Lim Tower,a pack of four bulbs cost around $2 and resistors cost $0.05 each.

That LED seller Chris is very popular in VOGS and SKC.

He has lots of LEDs available for different applications and they are all plug & play, no mods required.

This is his latest cabin light.
