Mercury1 Turbocharged November 20, 2016 Share November 20, 2016 Given the ineffeciencies of battery (charging, electrical loss on the current grid, lack of range) I'll say no. Also heat plays a big part on battery lifespan. Markets like singapore can still cope but countries like Indonesia majority of the cars will run out of juice on the highway by the time the jam ends. Still got some way to go before we get a proper replacement for the combustion engines ↡ Advertisement
SWUBIZ 2nd Gear November 20, 2016 Share November 20, 2016 (edited) There is incentive for buying hybrid cars base on LTA CEVS https://www.lta.gov.sg/content/ltaweb/en/roads-and-motoring/owning-a-vehicle/costs-of-owning-a-vehicle/tax-structure-for-cars.html But this scheme also applies to petrol cars. but as what Mercury1 and Uranium2k mentioned, maybe hybrid car is not that environmentall friendly after all. maybe still better off with petrol vehicles Thank u Mercury1 for your comment. inlinesix Supersonic November 20, 2016 Share November 20, 2016 If u 1 2 avoid being screwed, stick with petrol car Mining of lithium caused as much enviro damage as well. If Tesla set up proper distributorship in Msia/Sg, Tesla FTW. Tesla supercharger is impressive.
Kangadrool Supersonic November 20, 2016 Share November 20, 2016 (edited) Climate change is definitely a hoax, just like Y2K hoax. Not saying we start burning more fossils, but whether men live in caves, hunt for food or men live in panthouse/condoms, hunt for xmm, climate is constantly changing 'cos earth is constantly rotating, sun is burning... This hoax is to extract more tax money out from ordinary human beings, like carbon tax... 'cos there's so much that's all you can extract out from income tax, GST, social security tax, etc etc. Edited November 20, 2016 by Kangadrool

Benarsenal Turbocharged November 20, 2016 Share November 20, 2016 There are a lot of conspiracy theories out there. It's up to you to see and believe what is fact or fiction. Honestly to me, get a car to fit your needs. Whether environmentally friendly or not there's always going to be a debate. Not long ago diesels were pushed as the green alternative. Then VW scandal happened and now everything go ka-boom. Whether hybrids or EVs are truly environmentally friendly or not really depends on how you see it. Personally I don't find that the CEVS should be considered as a true incentive - not when that is going to affect your final PARF at the end of 10 years. True that you pay lesser upfront but it means you don't get back much at the end. You may save on some interest payable but dealers are likely to increase the price of their cars and their margin by utilising the CEVS anyway. Benarsenal Turbocharged November 20, 2016 Share November 20, 2016 CEVS is just LPPL only la. They give then they take, like every Govt measure.
Kangadrool Supersonic November 20, 2016 Share November 20, 2016 Only solution to slow down climate change is to not be so obsessed with GDP growth. We are over-consuming... unnecessarily.
Jman888 Moderator November 20, 2016 Share November 20, 2016 There has been many reports on climate change and 1 of the contributing factor to global warming is the CO2 release from vehicles. some advocate driving hybrid or electric to reduce carbon footprint. What's your view and your thoughts on this? (I'm actually considering changing to a hybrid) similar thread merge here.

Victor68 Turbocharged November 21, 2016 Share November 21, 2016 the truth is battery technoloy is still at its infant stage. electric or hybid, they have yet to replace existing cars. the fact that if nobody is willing to be pay for such R&D by supporting such cars, it will never reach the developed stage. so, there is no need to debate is electric or hybrid are more efficient than conventional cars now. If battery at infant stage, how can the range of Tesla Model S be 500km? With Jurong Island/Bukom refineries, govt will not develop electric charging network further for the time being. inlinesix Supersonic November 21, 2016 Share November 21, 2016 let Tesla try here than talk haha Tesla gave up Singapore because of our govt. Look how embarassing our LTA looks when PM Lee has to receive a call from Elon Musk. Tesla has proven to be successful in bigger countries. If Tesla going to setup shop in Malaysia, let's see whether Ah Loong face hide where. Currently, a Malaysia company is importing limited unit for experiment. ↡ Advertisement
