Hi All,

Just need to check if the following scenario is normal (coz i never encounter this for my past 2 cars):

After turning off the engine of my car, I walked out and hear a fan running.....then i opened my bonnet and the fan seems be from the radiator (the bigger one, if i m not wrong...coz carpark quite dark)! dizzy.gif

I tried to turn on the engine again n turn it off......but the fan is still running. I only managed to stop it after stepping on the accelator a few times.

Is this normal?? or is there something wrong with my A5?? unimpressed.gif

aiyoh sis .... this is very normal for conti cars i think .... my old FIAT also behaves this way, and my A4 Octy too !! But never happen in my other jap/korean cars ....

what happened was that the thermostat detects high temp and thus activates the fan to operate for a while .... dun worry, there's nothing wrong ....

by the way hor, the fan din go off becos u stepped on the accelerator hor !! laugh.gif

do you mean you also off the electrical in your car meaning you remove your key?

or electric is still ON but only engine is off?

if it is the latter,it is normal.

but if it is the former,it is really puzzling.

Yep, I've on my second Skoda, and it's normal. The car will continue to cool the engine even when it's off. These cars have alot of electrics working even without the key. When you park in a quite place, unlock the car and open the driver door. You will hear some motor turning for around 2-3 secs.

bro, what is that ah ? I discovered that recently too. Initially thought it was some other car/stuff/thing, then realised its my car. And if I remember correctly, the sound only appears if you open the Driver's Door ..... weird confused.gif

The fan turns when your switch off everything. It's the characteristic of the car. Esp when you have been driving the car quite hard for that journey.

Most likely the fan will still be blowing for 1-2 mins even after you switched off everything.

I tried looking everywhere, almost 5 yrs now. Still can't find it. I suspect it's the fuel pump or something like that (i could be very wrong). My new A5, the wipers will move to a lower position when i turn of the ignition, where you can actually see and hear them move, macham disarm position liddat.

That's why i love these cars, they are very technoligically advanced for the humble entry level models. My A5 will automatically put the wipers in INT mode, when the car is stationary, and resume to the driver set speed when moving.

Same here...

Knew that our cars have this in-built turbo timer....fans will continue to turn for a minute or two..after switching off engine, pull out key, close and lock door...

also noticed that once open the driver door, there are something being swtiched on already...

I tot my car haunted or the carpark haunted loh!!!!!!!!!!!! wah biang.....nearly die from scares....dead.gif

bro no worries, same happens to me, everytime i open the door there is a short electric current sound like that last for 3 secs.

as for the engine, its good that the fan is running to cool the engine irregardless its on or off. mine failed on me and i had to change the water pump, gasket, pipes...etc.....cos my engine nearly got burnt...temp hit beyond red line.

but your engine is off liao... coolant is not circulating right? den the fan just blow on the radiator area nia leh not the engine.

Happened to all me 22 continental cars in the last 20+ years. It is quite normal to have the radiator fan running even after you have switch off the engine, this is especially useful in countries that have high summer temperature. This is because, the cooling water is heated up and if the engine/fan is switched off, you will find water coming out of the reservior.
