Why not the authorities intro the hawkers to some affordable fire insurance policies rather dan the hawkers keep looking to the authorities whenever something bad happens? I mean at least not all is lost. Some pay out will help tide them thru.

I won't be surprised this type of older store owner will said no need insurance lah, not so unlucky one lah... Similar to ask them buy travel insurance.

Jurong West fire: 41-year-old male suspect arrested

 

SINGAPORE: A 41-year-old man has been arrested for suspected involvement in a case of mischief by fire at Jurong West, the Singapore Police Force said on Friday (Oct 14). 

 

 

The police were alerted to the fire at Block 493, Jurong West Street 41 on Oct 11 at about 2.42am. The suspect was identified and arrested on Oct 13 along Jurong West St 41, they added.

 

The suspect will be charged in court on Oct 15, and could face imprisonment for life or jail of up to 10 years and also a fine.

Agreed. And things like stocks all these won't be covered easily by fire insurance. If got invoice also likely in the stall itself.

Totally agree. Hope he gets a long long sentence. Arsonists are a major hazard to society. Could have easily killed some people with the gas tank storages in the coffeeshop.
