Should I stick to dino oil?

Hi all

If my mileage is 10k a year, is it better for me to stick to dino oil like Chevron Supreme and maintain an OCI of 5k every 6 months? My car servicing is every 6 months or 10k whichever comes first and my mileage suggests that using synthetic is quite wasteful.

I have heard good reviews about Chevron Supreme. However there is so much hype about synthetics being better for the engine. Is it true? Is not synthetics just suppose to last longer than dino?

I would greatly appreciate your comments and advice. Thanks in advance. [:)]

I would prefer a shorter OCI and change oil more frequently but that would mean I pay for cheaper oil but spend more on labour and filter every servicing. Correct or not?

Driving with the same oil in my engine for a whole year sounds quite scary. I have many start stop short journeys and would not this classify as severe usage? [sweatdrop]

How can dino oil be detrimental to my engine in any way?

i am a happy dino oil user 3000km per 6 mth oil change on citgo 10w-30. Will be moving on to Chev Sup once my CITGO runs out.

There's some truth to it as mineral oil normally have more volatile base stock thus higher NOACK % level.

These light base oil will vaporise quicker under high heat condition thus leaving a light coat of varnish.
